एक कोंबडीचे पिल्लू होते. ते झाडाखाली दाणे टिपीत होते. इतक्यात थोडा वारा आला. झाडाची पाने हालली. एक पान खाली पडले. ते पडले नेमके पिल्लाच्या पाठीवर पिलाने वर पाहिले. त्याला वाटले, आभाळ पडले. ते घाबरून पळत सुटले. पळता पळता त्याला भेटला एक ससा. त्याने विचारले,

"अरे, असा पळतोस का?"

पिल्लू म्हणाले, “पळा पळा! जीव वाचवा. आभाळ खाली पडत आहे. त्याचा एक तुकडा माझ्या पाठीवर पडला. ससा घाबरला. तोही त्याच्याबरोबर पळू लागला.

ते दोघे पळत होते. समोरून एक बदक येत होते. त्याने विचारले, “ सशा, सशा, काय झाले तुला ? पळतोस का असा ?" ससा काही थांबला नाही. तो म्हणाला, “बदकबुवा! पळा, पळा! थबकत थबकत चालू नका. वरून आभाळ पडत आहे.'
